I have decided that to gain information and inspiriation for the intertitles present in our trailer I would visit the BBFC's website and find professional examples of intertitles and their purpose in film trailers.
The first trailer I analysed was Twelve Years a Slave; a film based on on the life of Solomon Northrup, who is sold into a life of slavery. The intertitles in this trailer convey essential information to the audience; the director of the film; the production companies; the most well known actors that star in the film. Additionally, the film had the rare opportunity of adding an intertitle that informs the audience that the film is based on true events, this claim is considered a unique selling point.
The second trailer I analysed was Dreamworks' The Croods (2013), a story about a family of pre-historic cave dwellers that have their entire outlook on life changed after a catastrophic incident.
The intertitles in this film appear two thirds of the way into the trailer, the first intertitle is "In 2013", simply informing the audience when the film is going to be available to watch in cinemas. The second intertitle is "One family's adventure", informing the audience that the entire film is going to centre around this family and that this film is appropriate for the entire family, its a family film.
The penultimate intertitle continues from the previous, stating 'that will change our world forever', this intertitle is particularly interesting as the use of 'our' implies that both the characters in the film will be undergoing a momentous change, but so too will our world be forever changed by the thrills of this family friendly film starring Nicolas Cage.
The final intertitle appears after the title and before the more accurate date of release, the intertitle reads; 'Everything begins', a profound statement implying that this film is not only going to change your life but also how you live after it, that this film is the beginning of the rest of your life, it is that grand of a spectacle.
Solid research work in process here, which is feeding into the intertitles that you and your Production Team are developing. I look forward to seeing them.
