I have made a promotional package of a film trailer, poster and magazine cover. A promotional package such as this has vital requirements, most importantly to create a film brand that successfully sells a film to its target audience.
Key conventions of a promotional package include:
- The film title design being the same or similar across all three promotional materials, establishing a recognisable logo, and by extension, brand.
- The film characters should feature prominantly throughout all three promotional materials to avoid confusion.
- The theming of each material must be similar as to convey the appropriate tone and genre for the film.
- Information must match the other two materials. This includes release dates, website details and cast.
- The cohesiveness of the design, content and conveying inter-relatedness between poster, magazine and trailer is paramount to establishing a recognisable brand.
All three of my materials fit these key conventions as I kept the imagery of each similar in my promotional package, keeping characters and locations consistent as well as primarily featuring red, white, and black imagery, these colours can be found in character clothing, intertitles as well as the magazine cover and poster. My three promotional materials also link together by featuring the same three characters; Private Investigator Andrews, the Cultist, and the Police Chief. However, as the film is told from the perspective of P.I. Andrews, he is most prominantly featured in the trailer.
