Film trailers are made as the film is being edited. the timing of the trailer is important, in general trailers are released six months before the release of the full movie however large budget films can release a trailer a full year before the film releases as it gives them more than enough time to get people excited and raise awareness.
I have watched three trailers that are topical at the moment and have discussed the 'buzz' that these trailers have generated. I have also researched why these films will be released in summer.
This trailer promotes the film Snatched, a film that has been released this summer. This comedy movie is perfect for the summer market as it stars Amy Schumer and the plot revolves around her and her mother having a holiday in Equador. the movie makes a point of showcasing the beautiful landscapes, ocean and fauna as well as the more seedy, crime-riddled underbelly of Equador.
A staple of Amy Schumer's films is the humour, this film is no different as the trailer showcases some humour however the trailer shows near the end of the movie where the two female leads are in body armour and wielding guns, taking on the crime lord of that area, which can be considered as female empowerment.
This trailer promotes the film Wonder Woman, the first superhero movie to have a female director and lead, and even the premise of Wonder Woman is all about female empowerment as it is a female lead, from a female only island proving that women can be just as, if not stronger than men. This movie is especially important as it is currently the only superhero movie that centers around a woman in the lead role that was critically acclaimed.
This trailer promotes the film The Beguiled, this is a remake of the film of the same name made in 1971. This film retreads the same plot of the original, set in the civil war a girl only orphanage takes in a wounded man and it goes downhill from there.
